✨ 6 Tweet Saturday ✨ October 7, 2023

Okay so it's a few tweets and some YouTube stuff

I really need to get better at doing these on Thursdays, but it’s been a crazy busy week in a good way. Here are the five most interesting tweets I’ve seen this past week, and some other stuff that caught my attention. Enjoy!

1. Fantastic Traits to have in Business Development

I once worked with an executive at a startup that said to a group of people in the office, including several salespeople, “Sales & BD is easy. All you have to do is get people to say yes to you.”

That individual wasn’t with our company for long. The quote back then stuck with me over the years, as I was awestruck by such an oversimplified version of my profession. If it were only that easy!

I’d bet that it comes off appearing that easy to people outside of Sales/BD. But the best BD folks I’ve met over the years are so good at what they do, and they’ve worked so hard at the nuance in their role and approach that it appears effortless in its execution.

This list long from Bella is summarized in a great way by Atif:

Most people think it’s the fancy stuff that works in BD or Sales, but it comes down to ability to build relationships, grit, attention to detail, creativity and relentlessness.

2. Brian Cranston’s mindset shift that changed his life

Detach from the outcome, and watch how it can affect your life.

3. U2 performing at The Sphere

The fantastic exterior of The Sphere seems to be completely outdone by its interior. I can’t wait to go there one day for some kind of concert or event.

I can see the possibility of suspending disbelief at that moment and feeling like you’ve been truly transported to another time and space. This is incredible.

4. Reminder

At any moment on any day you’re going to be feeling some kind of way, so why not choose to feel unstoppable?

5. The importance of Brand

The text in the tweet here:

If Nike announced that they were opening a hotel, you’d have a pretty good guess about what it would be like. But if Hyatt announced that they were going to start making shoes, you would have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER what those shoes would be like. That’s because Nike owns a brand and Hyatt simply owns real estate.”

  1. Scott Galloway on is there going to be a recession?

I was watching listening to this weekly podcast update by Prof. Scott Galloway while folding some laundry and this last segment about the economy and the possibility of a recession in the US had me pausing and replaying several quotes (starting at the timestamp linked to the video here). Some notable takeaways:

  • “The great thing about recessions is that they always happen, and the great thing about them is that they always end.”

  • “Economic strain is a rebalancing of power from the old to the young, and we’ve decided that if 1.2 million die, that would be bad (i.e. the pandemic), but if the NASDAQ went down that would be tragic.”

  • “You want a recession, and you’re gonna get what you want - it’s coming in 2024.”

Worth a listen if you have the time! (It’s not all doom and gloom 💀 )

Welp, I’m done here and my Nintendo Switch is just about finished downloading the latest software update, so I’m heading to get some eliminations on Fortnite this afternoon. 💪 Have a great weekend!
